Social digital life momentum
My company is one of the leading integrator in Japan with thousands of employees. So some people might think like this.
“All workers here are IT professionals who know how to operate business with Social media”
As you have guessed…The answer is NO. Security, safety, secrecy are the most discussed topic, where as social networking or free communication remains to be mysterious unknown risks. So I inquired of the PR department who’s in charge of the CSRs and all that.
There I discovered an interesting forecast as my own private mission, with other annual sales targets.
This could be a really BIG opportunity for me. I can challenge spreading the basic mind of the social digital life among typical japanese organization. I can state the efficiency of the social web tools to a few thousand conservative middle aged “Salary men”.
As I have mentioned earlier, the company where I belong is very strict with data management. That is due to our business model creating values by proposing solutions using IT equipment. We make money by handling data. It is easy to imagine that they will reject ideas like telling all members of the sales department to get a facebook account to use respectively. I guess twitter’s even worse, as it looks having more risk of classified information leaks.
However, when you step back and overlook the situation, you realize that the fundamental topic of whats good and whats bad all summarized to employees’ morals and behaviour. In another words, what tool people use is not the main argument concerning risk management. Although web tools archive everything and remain all evidences up in the clouds, the same level of fear stays in our real life too.
Forexample it doesn’t make sense rejecting twitter operation by judging that someone might tweet about the unreleased product. What about the danger of a drunk guy talking on the same hot subject on friday night at the bar??
Anyway, I have to organize the merits and demerits of using social web tools in our business. Moreover, I have to make clear of what I want to achieve and what merits I have in the present environment.
